According to multiple sources (Marc Stein of ESPN & Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo!) Rudy Gay has been traded by the Memphis Grizzlies to the Toronto Raptors, with the Detroit Pistons being involved.
Here is the reported trade and what each team receives in the deal:
Toronto Raptors
- Rudy Gay & Hamed Haddadi from Memphis
Memphis Grizzlies
- Tayshaun Prince & Austin Daye from Detroit
- Ed Davis & 2nd round draft pick from Toronto
Detroit Pistons
- Jose Calderon from Toronto
Toronto now has a nice set of players in DeMar DeRozan & Rudy Gay moving forward. Memphis can still make a run at a championship with Prince, Daye & Davis, while getting rid of Rudy Gay’s massive contract. As for the Detroit Pistons, it’s a great move for them. Jose Calderon has an expiring contract and will be a free agent after this season. Detroit wasn’t exactly a playoff team and as of right now, they will have about $25 million in cap room this off-season. The Pistons will have money to spend in free agency.
